IIron Prick-Spur. Viking, X-XI Century AD. Found in the East Riding of Yorkshire along the battle route of the Battle of Stamford Bridge. With bullet-shaped point and three-rivet attachments, ends shaped like Viking sword-pommels. MLMC.type.A2-3v. 4.5" long. Missing most of attachment-plates, otherwise intact. Cleaned and lacquered for stability. Choice for iron. The Battle of Stamford Bridge has the English king Harold Godwinson defeating the Viking forces of Harald Hardrada. However, this battle so weakened and delayed the English forces that the Norman forces of William were victorious at Hastings about a week later.
