Measures 38mm average, scallop shell and triangular form, nice green patinas.rnFor reference, see:rnBishop & Coulston, Roman Military Equipment, figures 137 and 141.rnrnThis type of belt fitting originated perhaps in the 2nd Century originally as a woman's belt, but became popular with the Eastern legions. Such stiffeners are seen on the Arch of Constantine, and were apparently used primarily on sword belts.
