GALATIA. Ancyra. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. (Bronze, 34 mm, 23.68 g, 7 h). ΑVΤΟΚ ΚΑΙС ΑΔΡΙΑ ΑΝΤΩΝƐΙΝΩ СƐΒΑСT Bare head of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. Η ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙϹ ΤΗϹ ΓΑΛΑΤΙΑϹ ΑΝΚYΡΑ Asclepius standing, facing, head turned to left, holding patera and serpent-staff. Imhoof-Bloomer KM 496, 4. RPC IV online, 10016 (same dies). Very rare. Rough surfaces, otherwise, good fine.

Very possibly, this may be the only example to appear on public sale since the publication of the type by Imhoof-Bloomer in 1901! As with so many of Dr. W.F. Stoecklin's coins, it would be fascinating to know where he got it!.
