Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, 139-161. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 32 mm, 24.04 g, 11 h), struck under Antoninus Pius, Rome, 145-147. AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG PII F COS II Bare head of Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. S C Marcus Aurelius, holding eagle-tipped scepter, standing right in ornamented car, leading triumphal quadriga to right. Banti 295. BMC 1781 (Pius). Cohen 582. RIC 1246 (Pius). Dark olive-grey/brown patina, with a fine bust of Aurelius. Edge bangs and a couple of flan cracks, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, bought from H. Nussbaum in Zürich in the 1930s.
