CHINA. Chekiang. Pattern 10 Cash Struck in Copper-Nickel, ND (1903-06). PCGS SP-62 Secure Holder.
CL-ZJ.13; W-132 (M-3); KM-Pn10; CCC-Unlisted; cf.Duan-1020 (for basic type). EXTREMELY RARE. Top of Manchu character "Boo" connected to the top of the middle stroke. According to authors Zhou Qinyuan and Li Pingwen of the outstanding reference "Concise Catalogue of Modern Chinese Copper Coins", a standard on the subject, state that the Dr. Norman Jacobs specimen was the only confirmed example in this material. They go on to say that Tracey Woodward cites an example saying that it exists and that it is extremely rare. The present example is probably the piece that Woodward cites, but since it was not plated we can not confirm this. Sharply struck with definition of the fine details. Signs of handling consistent for the grade. An interesting piece sure to see serious bidding from the specialist. PCGS SP-62 Secure Holder.
From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
