CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). Pattern Tael Mule, ND (ca. 1899-1900). PCGS SP Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder.
cf.KM-Pn3; cf.CCC-298; K-pg. 331-32; Duan-Unlisted; CL-Unlisted. Struck in copper with reeded edge using two reverse dies. EXTREMELY RARE. Proposed design for a Tael series based on the gold standard. Double struck with the second strike rotated about 5 degrees clockwise displaying slightly muddled design features. Small edge bumps could account for the details designation of "Damage", otherwise no major distractions to speak of. Attractive mahogany and mellow chocolate patina with minor debris amongst the devices. PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder.
