CHINA. Kiangsu-Chingkiang. Pattern 20 Cash, CD (1906). PCGS SP-64 BN Secure Holder.
CL-TK.21; CCC-272; Duan-2731; KM-Pn7; Shanghai Museum-921; Sun-V-3-11. EXCESSIVELY RARE and the only known example in private hands with the other permanently impounded in the Shanghai museum. The Chingkiang mint where this piece was manufactured was initially setup to strike 10 cash size pieces, so additional equipment was needed. Once ready to start production the equipment was tested. Upon inspection it was discovered that the pressure needed to strike these larger size pieces was insufficient. Later the equipment was disassembled and sent the Nanjing mint. The present example is sharply struck with hard smooth surfaces displaying a lovely milk chocolate patina throughout highlighted by hints of original mint red amongst the devices and hues of blue and purple when tilted in the light. For the specialist of Chinese copper coins an offering not to be missed as it may not appear on the market again for many years. PCGS SP-64 BN Secure Holder.

From the Q. David Bowers Collection.

Ex: R. B. White.

Estimate: $50000.00- $75000.00
