ANNAM. Order of the Dragon of Annam Grand Officer Breast Star, ND (Instituted 1886, Obsolete 1946).
103 mm. Barac-92; Vernon-171; Werlich-407. Silver star of 16 faceted points. At the center is an oval, red-bordered blue medallion, inscribed with 4 characters: Dong Khan Hoang De (Emperor Dong Khanh). An impressive green enameled dragon is coiled around the central medallion, grasping it with 3 of his 4 clawed appendages. The reverse is marked "ARTHUS BERTRAND / PARIS". There is one hinged and two fixed tunic pins, the hinged one hallmarked with a boar's head and "AB" within a sunken lozenge to indicate the metal content and maker. The enamels on the dragon are complete, but there is a small amount of blue enamel on the central medallion that has been lost. EXTREMELY FINE.
