423.00 gms. Robinson & Shaw-pg. 38 (Phayre plate III); cf.Mitchiner-2862. Produced from a copper-tin alloy for use in the coastal trading provinces. Best known for there use in Tenassarim, but were also used in Pegu. These were probably produced under Thai suzerainty from 1593 until 1785 when the Burmese king Bodawpaya occupied Tenassarim. Finally ceasing production under the British occupation in 1824. RARE and a very interesting piece of Burmese numismatics. Minor earthen deposits with attractive slate grey patina. VERY FINE.
