JAPAN. Japanese Numismatic Literature, Year 11 (1878).
Tokuno, ed., "Dai Nippon Kahei Seizu," dated Meiji 11 (1878), published by the Tokyo Mint. Oblong folio, bound in brocade over boards. 54 sheets detailing the pictorial history of coinage in Japan. Gold and silver metallic inks are employed, creating lavish reproductions of contemporary and historical coins. A very early example of Japanese lithography. This copy was given by Mr. Shimamura, charges d'affaires of the legation at the Hague in the Netherlands, to Mr. E. A. A. de Roy van Zuisdesvapor (sp.?), president of the chamber of commerce, in October 1888. Includes letters of presentation from Shimamura in French and Dutch. Excellent condition with the binding still bright and only the slightest fraying on the edges, no foxing on the pages. RARE and a wonderful example of 19th century Japanese numismatic literature. EXTREMELY FINE.

From the Q. David Bowers Collection.

Estimate: $500.00- $1000.00
