Henry VI (1422-61), Groat, annulet issue, Calais, 3.80g, m.m. pierced cross, crowned bust, annulets by neck, rev. long cross and pellets, additional annulet in two quarters (N.1424; S.1836), patchy tone, a pleasing example, almost extremely fine.

In April 2010, a metal detectorist unearthed 477 silver coins in a farmer's field dating from the reigns of Edward I to Henry VI. Of the assemblage, 122 were Groats, 62 Halfgroats, 289 Pennies and four Halfpennies, giving a total contemporary face value of £3, 15/-, 3d. Dr Barrie Cook commenting on this hoard, noted that such an amount represented over a month's average income for a local gentleman, or similarly could have enabled him to have bought a good quality horse in nearby Great Yarmouth.
