Arab-Byzantine, Syria and Palestine. Standing imperial figure type. 680s-ca. 693. Æ fals. Damascus (or possibly Tiberias). Byzantine style standing emperor, holding long cross and globus cruciger; in left field, bird on T-shaped standard; in right field, Λ/Є/Ο / Large M; above, starogram; across field, A/N/O X/8/II; below, crescent above -; ΔAM. Walker 7; SICA 560. Attractive earthen-brown patina, slightly chipped. Well centered and detailed. Good very fine.

Although normally attributed to Damascus based on the letters ΔΑΜ in the exergue, the bird perched atop the T-shaped standard also appears on issues of Tiberias (cf. SNAT 302). Thus it is possible that these ΔΑΜ issues with bird are from Tiberias, merely copying the fulus from the principal Umayyad mint at Damascus.
