Died 211 AD. Denarius, 2.77g (12h). Rome. Obv: DIVO SEVERO PIO Bare head right. Rx: CONSECRATIO Eagle with spread wings standing right, head left, on shield. BMC Caracalla 21. Cohen 84 (5 Fr.). RIC Caracalla 191c. Scarce: 10 specimens in Reka Devnia hoard. Ex Philip T. Ashton Collection. Acquired in August 1998. The round object in the eagle's talons is usually called a globe, but on this specimen it has a separate outer border, so apparently represents an honorary shield. Near Mint State.
