Lower Canada.  silver Proof Wellington Peninsular 1/2 Penny Token ND (c. 1812) PR62 NGC, Br-987, WE-11A1, Courteau-4, 8.86 gm. Reeded edge, diagonally. Prooflike fields, with frosted devices and light marks. Rare and desirable.

J.K. Picard, the agent for the Wellington Peninsular tokens, frequently traveled to London to socialize with people in high places and was known in Court.  When he was invited to Court to display his tokens, Picard produced several specimens in silver for presentation purposes.  The fact that the silver tokens are known from multiple die pairs suggests that they were made on multiple occasions and were not just for a single Court appearance.  In any event all silver varieties are very scarce to rare, so they must have been produced in very small numbers.
