Lower Canada. Four Wellington-Related Tokens,
1) Wellington Cossack Penny ND (1813) MS61 Brown NGC, Br-985, WE-13, Courteau-24, 18.38 gm.
2) VICTORIA NOBIS EST 1/2 Penny ND (c. 1813) AU, Br-982, LC-49A1, Courteau-40, 8.37 gm. Overstruck on Guppy token, with traces the undertype HALF PENNY across Nelson's head.
3) VICTORIA NOBIS EST 1/2 Penny ND (c. 1813) XF, Br-982, LC-49A1, Courteau-40, 8.61 gm. Overstruck on Guppy token, with traces the undertype ship across Nelson's head.
4) VICTORIA NOBIS EST 1/2 Penny ND (c. 1813) XF, Br-982, LC-49A2, Courteau-40, 7.82 gm. Not overstruck.
The identity of the portrait on this type has confused some numismatists of the past. However, the obverse legend, VICTORIA NOBIS EST ("Victory is ours."), can leave little doubt that the portrait must be that of Lord Horatio Nelson, even though it doesn't look much like him.
