Gold Proof "Restrike" Copper Co. of Upper Canada 1/2 Penny 1794 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, Br-721, PF-6. "Restrike", medal alignment. Gold. Lovely piece, with minimal marking.
From the same die pair J. Rochelle Thomas used for the bronze and silver "Restrikes" and presumably done on his order, although he made no mention of striking in this metal. Excessively rare. There are only two auction records of a gold "restrike": the Murdoch sale (lot 513) and the Ford VII Sale (lot 126), where it was purchased by Mr. Robins. It is not clear whether the two sales represent one or two pieces. In any event the present piece represents another of several opportunities in the Robins sale to make a once in a lifetime purchase.
