ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 165-42 BC. AR tetradrachm (31mm, 16.81 gm, 11h). NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5. "New Style" issue, 136/5 BC. Hera(kles), Aristoph-, and Exe(?), magistrates. Head of Athena Parthenos right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet embossed with vine scroll, leaping Pegasus and foreparts of four horses on brow plate / A-ΘE, owl standing right, head facing, on overturned amphora; above HPA, API-ΣTOΦ, EXE in four lines across field; to left, club facing downward, draped in lion skin and set over bow in case, H on amphora, AN below amphora; all within wreath. Thompson 335b variant (unlisted month/control letters combination). HGC 4, 1602. Somewhat "scrubbed" surfaces, otherwise well struck on a broad flan in sound metal, with a nicely detailed reverse.
