ÞAONANOÞAO OO - HÞKI KOÞANO, nimbate half-length bust of Huvishka, with mustache and wart on cheek, wearing conical jeweled helmet with pointed ear flap, diadem with two ties, open kaftan over long-sleeved tunic, and jeweled armlets, facing half-left on mountain-top, holding mace-headed club in right hand and scepter over left shoulder / ÞαOPHOPO, Shaoreoro (Ares-Mars) standing right, wearing helmet, breastplate and kilt of pteruges, holding spear in right hand and resting left on grounded shield; tamgha to right. ANS Kushan 770. MK 266. Very rare deity!
Shaorero is the Kushan deity of imperial might, the equivalent of the Greco-Roman Ares-Mars, and he is depicted here wearing a surprisingly Western panoply.
