Magnentius, usurper in the West (AD 350-353). AR heavy siliqua (19mm, 3.64 gm, 7h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 4/5, flan flaw. Trier, AD 350. IM CAE MAGN-ENTIVS AVG, bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust of Magnentius right / VIRTVS EXERCITI, Magnentius, wearing helmet and military attire, standing facing, head right, holding inverted spear in right hand and resting left on shield set on ground; TR in exergue. RIC 258 (R3). RSC 82. Very rare. Wedge-shaped reverse flan flaw mainly affecting fields, otherwise a beautiful piece with deep iridescent cabinet toning.
