Magnentius, Western usurper (AD 350-353). AR heavy siliqua (20mm, 3.05 gm, 6h). NGC AU 4/5 - 3/5. Lugdunum, AD 350-353. D N MAGNEN-TIVS P F AVG, bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Magnentius right / FELICITA-S PERPETVA, Victory walking left, wreath upward in right hand, palm in left over shoulder; LVG in exergue. RIC IX, 120 var. (Victory with trophy instead of palm branch) (R2). RSC 3†a var. (same). Evidently much rarer than the RIC / RSC listings might indicate for even the regular issue, none having been sold at auction since 2000. Dark gray-blue toning, light toned-over scuff to cheek.
