Australia
George V gold Sovereign 1922-S MS63 PCGS, Sydney mint, KM29, S-4003, Fr-38. A true rarity, this charmingly choice example is the first of the date which we have offered and should serve as a stunning keystone in any British commonwealth collection. Appreciated for its scarcity, the original mintage figure for this date was nearly 600,000, but the continued usage of Australian and South African sovereigns in the post-WWI international economy caused quantities to transfer endlessly to and from London. Eventually, the Bank of England melted nearly 100 million of these sovereigns, many of them being recently minted overseas issues such as the 1922 Sydney emission. As such, it is scarcely encountered and hotly contested, especially when remaining in such a pristine state of preservation as this piece. An exceptional opportunity for the true connoisseur.
