McGill College gold "William Shakespeare Tercentenary" Medal 1864 AU - Edge Marks, 44mm/50.89g. 14k gold. By Joseph & Allan Wyon. Obv: Bust of Shakespeare left, with name (unusually spelled) and birth and death dates around legend. Rev: 3-line inscription at center inside ornate quadrilobe. Reflective in the fields with moderate hairlines and blushes of reddish tone on both sides. A small rim bruise is noted at 2 o'clock and a set of linear cuts are visible on the edge between 6 and 7 o'clock. A very rare Canadian medal, perhaps unique in gold, that celebrates the 300th anniversary of the 300th birth anniversary of world-renowned poet, playwright and actor William Shakespeare.
