McGill University gold "James Watt" Applied Sciences Prize Medal 1884 UNC, 45mm/52.56. By Allan Wyon. Obv: James Watt bust right. Rev: Floral Wreath. An attractive medal, struck with cameo-like detail, with stark frost over the raised surfaces and fully reflective fields. Light handling is noted, but no instance overwhelms the eye. Struck as a prize medal in the field of Applied Sciences and bearing the likeness of James Watt (1736-1819), a Scottish inventor who made significant advancements in steam engine technology. Although unawarded, this medal is the only example of its kind we have been able to locate.
