Republic "Centered Y" Volcano Peso 1817-SANTIAGO AU - Mount Removed, Repaired, Santiago mint, KM82.1. One of the great rarities of the Chilean numismatic series and an historically intriguing piece. This issue was supposedly only produced for one month in 1817 whilst the assayer, Francisco Rodriguez Brochero, was temporarily suspended leading to no assayer initials being present on the coin and the Y of the reverse legend being centered above the pillar. Besides some smoothing in the reverse field, this coin carries a radiant steely luster transitioning to an electric cobalt within the legends, the strike crisp and definitive. With extremely few examples known, this premium offering is sure to attract the interest of specialist collectors.
