Lazareto (Leper Colony) 50 Centavos 1901 MS61 Brown NGC, Bogota mint, KML5. Struck in copper. An absolute rarity with only 2 examples noted by KM, this piece being by far the finer with the only other certified an AU55 NGC. The Lazareto series was struck exclusively for use in leprosariums, and are very rarely found in presentable grades, let alone in Mint State like this superb specimen. Smooth chocolate brown surfaces give way to subdued luster, the strike with weakness in centers but otherwise sharp, some dark spots to obverse but overall visually attractive and extremely rare.
