Zara. Siege 4 Francs-60 Centimes 1813 MS62 NGC, KM1, Dav-49, Her-1216. With the typical three edge punches. Obv. Crowned eagle, with head right and wings spread, standing facing on thunderbolt and between ZARA and date; all within incuse lozenge. Rev. 1.0./4.F 60.C in two lines; all within incuse square. Issued during the Austrian siege of Zara (Zadar) in 1813, which remained under Austrian control until the end of WWI. Lustrous and near-choice, this type is rarely encountered in levels of mint state such as this. Accordingly, NGC has graded just one finer---the Newman specimen---which realized a hammer of $7,000 in our 2014 NYINC sale (auction 3029, lot 30040).
