Republic 2 Reales 1836 QUITO-GJ AU50 NGC, KM18. "Republica del Ecuador" legend variety. Scarce in any grade and primarily found in a lower level of certification, an AU example such as this is rare. Significant original detail framed by residual luster catch the eye beneath even and shallow wear, the entire piece colored a satisfying gun-metal gray with hints of light silver and gold. An example from the "FP" assayer but of the same date graded AU55 by NGC realized $3,818.75 in our 2013 CICF auction.
