Jean II le bon (1350-64) gold Mouton d'Or MS63 NGC, type authorized 17 January 1355, Fr-280, Duplessy-291. + AGn o DЄI o QVI o TOLL' o PCCA o MVDI o MISЄRЄRЄ o nOB, nimbate Agnus Dei left, head right, a long cross with banner behind; all within a tressure broken by IOh' RЄX in the exergue / + XP'C : VInCIT : XP'C : RЄGnAT : XP'C : IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée with lis in angles; all within a quadrilobe with lis in spandrels. A gorgeous, crisply-struck and iconic Medieval masterpiece. Every detail of the Agnus Dei is sharply evident, from the lamb's folded front leg to its backwards-turned head, mouth open in a perpetual bleat. NGC shows 24 examples of this type graded below MS63, and only 7 above; it is thus amongst the finest certified, and will certainly not disappoint its next owner.
