Oppeln & Ratibor. Karl Ferdinand of Poland gold 2 Ducat 1653 UNC Details (Mount Removed) PCGS, KM38 (previously KM117 under Breslau), Fr-511a (under Breslau). An incredible rarity, featuring no real wear, but some evidence of mounting and its subsequent removal. Pleasingly lustrous and sharply struck. No other examples could be located by this cataloger, though the piece is similar to the octagonal 3 Ducats klippe which we sold as part of the Newman collection (sale 3029, lot 30062). That example, an NGC MS63, realized a hammer of $50,000. All of these gold issues from Oppeln & Ratibor, therefore, are at a supreme level of importance, and it was the present specimen's use a jewelry piece which likely saved it. Of the highest interest for the advanced collector of Silesian or those issues which fell under the Bohemian crown.
