Wurzburg. Johann Gottfried II Taler 1693-IMV AU55 NGC, Wurzburg mint, KM206, Dav-5994. Most pleasing in this lightly circulated quality, featuring the obverse portrait of Johann Gottfried II with reverse helmeted arms and divided date below. The massive surfaces show a layer of golden coloration beneath the mostly even gunmetal patina, while both sides of the flan express deeply impressed design illustrations. Very faint adjustment marks transect the bust and the obverse features evidence of clashed dies, but these character-building eccentricities just add to the originality of this offering.
