Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor (1042-66) Penny MS65 NGC, London mint, S-1174, Freeman 223, SCBI 54 (Stockholm), 785–6 (same rev. die), North-817. Quadrilateral trefoil type (BMC iii; Hild. C). Moneyer Brunman. +EDPHE: RCR, diademed bust left / +BRVHMGH ON LVD, central circle, short voided cross within, quadrilateral at center, trefoil of pellets at corners and one in center. Gorgeous yellow-green iridescence dominates the obverse center of this gem, flaring into a deep red as it radiates outwards; the reverse shows an inverse effect. An outstandingly precise and central strike with seldom seen eye appeal, an impressive pedigree and of an exceptional certification. Incorrectly attributed to Southwark mint on holder.
