Great Britain
Oliver Cromwell gold Death Medal 1658 (c.1870) SP62 PCGS, Eimer-201, plain edge. Simon's classic portrait of Cromwell with "warts and all" is depicted beautifully on this specimen, typical of silver coinage in Britain at the time; however, this is a supposed Dutch copy, listed by Henfrey in 1877, apparently produced to supply collectors unable to procure originals for themselves. This nonetheless remains a rare and beautiful medal in itself, with prominent frosted designs over reflective fields with only mind hairlines, and a gorgeous deep yellow coloring. A similar example was sold by us at auction 3030, January 2014, realizing $7,050.
