George III counterstamped Bank of England Dollar ND (1799-1804) AU53 PCGS, KM656, S-3766, ESC-138. Octagonal counterstamp on a 1799 Mo-FM Mexican 8 Reales of Charles IV. An especially high certification for this type, both the host coin and the counterstamp (the octagonal variety far rarer than the oval) showing good detail and a light toning over original surfaces. A coin that speaks of the dire state of British coinage at the end of the 18th century, and a rare offering in this high quality.
