George IV gold Sovereign 1825 MS62 NGC, KM696, S-3801. This Mint State example exhibits a very strong portrait of George, a crisp strike overall, and its unique appeal lies in what is simply a remarkable level of toning for a gold coin. Impossible to represent in a photograph, the full cartwheel luster covering this coin is itself overlaid with a stunning red-orange patina, appearing so vibrant on the reverse as to seem more appropriate to a silver coin (silver being far more reactive than gold). One for the connoisseur of toned and high-grade gold coins.
