Victoria gold Sovereign 1849 MS65 PCGS, Royal mint, KM736.1, S-3852C. A truly magnificent survivor from the first half of the 19th century, early in Victoria's reign. The collector will be familiar with Wyon's talented engraving of the young Queen's portrait, and to observe it in such a high degree of preservation and beauty as this specimen is a treat to behold. Lustrous tiger's eye brilliance floods the fields and open expanses, contrasting with the designs to appear almost prooflike; this is not a coin which makes it easy to look away, and nor would you want to. Only one is certified higher at MS65+, and it is hard to imagine its eye appeal to be far superior to this specimen. An absolute jewel.
