Edward VII gold 5 Pounds 1902 AU53 NGC, KM807, S-3965. Originally, 35,000 of these regular strike 5 Pound pieces were produced in 1902, but 27,000 pieces were subsequently melted leaving only 8,000 surviving examples. As a result, the currency issue type is as rare if not rarer than the matte proof issue of the same year. This presentable specimen is of a rich sun-yellow gold, lightly toned over its original surfaces, numerous light contact marks commensurate with the grade. Overall a pleasant and collectable coin.
