Philip V gold Cob Escudo 1713 Mo-J MS61 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM51.1, Cal-509. 17mm/3.36g. Extremely rare, not only because of its denomination, which is far more elusive than the larger ones of the date that were recovered in quantity from the 1715 Plate Fleet shipwreck, but also because the date is fully and clearly placed on the flan, this characteristic almost never encountered on any cob of this era. Bright golden surfaces, without any evidence of wear, further elevates this coin's allure. Truly, a cob collector's dream coin!
