Philip V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1720/19 Mo-J AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM57.2, Cal-112 (Unlisted Overdate). 31mm/27.2g. An underrated rarity in the Philip V cob series, with perhaps five known examples of the date, it not having the benefit of turning up in any shipwreck recoveries. Of those we have seen, this example is at least an equal, with pleasing size and roundness to the flan and surfaces that reflect light circulation. Minimal strike double exists as well, and a clear final two digits of the date, mintmark, denomination and full cross remain on flan. Exciting as our first offering of the date and the only example to appear on the market in the last several years.
