João V gold 4 Escudos (Peça) 1739 MS65 NGC, Lisbon mint, KM221.9. A very difficult year to come by - only 5 examples have been certified by NGC or PCGS and of those few, this specimen is by far the highest graded (the next highest an MS62 NGC). Absolutely spectacular, this undisturbed specimen shows essentially pristine surfaces graced with a radiant sheen of mint luster, its strike bold and definitive. A scarce issue as a whole and extremely troublesome to obtain in higher grades, this prize piece is surely one for the premium collector of Portuguese gold.
