Republic gold Pond 1897 MS61 NGC, KM10.2, Hern-Z50. An exceptionally difficult coin to find in Mint State (the highest certified examples graded MS63, only two points higher than this specimen) and from examination one is inclined to believe that it has been rather conservatively graded. Light contact marks seem to be the only drawback from this dazzling specimen, being fully lustrous and of a gorgeous lemon-gold color, and a viewing in-hand will confirm its charm. A recent example graded MS62 in our auction 3049, September 2016, achieved $11,000 hammer.
