Saxony. Moritz (1541-1553) Taler 1548 AU55 NGC, Annaberg mint, Dav-9787. Among the earliest talers of the Albertine line and extremely desirable as such, this hefty piece conceals a special secret on the reverse, as peripheries tenderly form a halo of russet-gold around a pool of jade and sapphire. While slightly flawed, the flan moreover remains perfectly round with numerous tiny flaws that do not distract from the strength of the strike.
