Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) Penny ND (1059-1062) XF45 NGC, Canterbury mint, Edward as moneyer, Hammer Cross type, 1.17g, S-1182, North-828. EADPA | RD REX (or similar, blundered), crowned and bearded bust right with scepter held in front / EAD | PARD | ON CENT, voided short cross with incurved segments of circles at each termination. An attractive, if somewhat unevenly struck, example of this popular type, with relatively light signs of wear (see especially Edward's beard and the band of his crown) and hints of fiery reddish-orange luster in the protected regions of the legends.
