FRANCE, Royal. Henri IV le Grand (the Great), with Marie de' Medici. 1589–1610. Æ Medal (95mm, 463.3 g, 12h). By Guillaume Dupré. Dated 1603, though a 20th century Paris mint restrike. HENRIC · IIII · R · CHRIS · MARIA · AVGVSTA, jugate busts of Henry, facing, and Maria / PROPAGO IMPERII, Henri standing right, holding long staff and clasping arms with Maria, standing left, holding shield; between, cherub standing facing holding plumed helmet, resting foot on dolphin facing; above, dove bearing crown. EF.

Collector's note: Guillaume Dupre is the Pisanello of French medallists and the inventive dual portrait constituted one of the greatest medallic achievements to that point.
