FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. Uniface Æ Medal (57x81mm, 35.11 g). La Madone. By Charles Pillet. Struck late 19th/early 20th century. Madonna seated right, holding infant christ; in exergue, LA MADONE / Rough incuse impression with two mounting screw and string. EF.

Collector's note: "Charles Pillet studied under Chapu and Chaplain. He studied at the École des Arts décoratifs from 1885 then in 1886 at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome de gravure en médailles in 1890. He also won the Silver Medal at 1900 Exposition Universelle. Pillet created the medal of general Portifirio Diaz president of Mexico. One of his last creations is the medal of the music editor Francis Salabert that he made at the age of 83."
