Republic 8 Reales 1865 Ca-FP MS63 NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM377.2, DP-Ca39 ("Extremely Rare"). Choice Uncirculated, with strongly defined features, unparalleled luster and a compelling tone throughout. The obverse displays a sifting of tone that accentuates the minor planchet flaws, while the reverse offers a satin texture and a beautiful champagne radiance. A lightening bolt die crack above the eagle also adds a dramatic flare that cannot be ignored. One of only two dates of the Chihuahua series showing assayer initials "F. P." for Francisco Potts and struck under Emperor Maximilian, long recognized among the rarest and most desirable Chihuahua issues and extremely rare and desirable in this superb preservation. Currently the single finest graded example in the combined NGC and PCGS census and certain to become a marquee piece in one fortunate bidder's collection.
