The Herulians. Odovacar, 476-493. In the name of Julius Nepos, second reign 477-480. Solidus, Mediolanum 477-480, AV 4.40 g. D N IVL NE – POS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing three-quarters r., holding spear and shield with horseman and fallen enemy motif. Rev. VICTORI – A AVGGG * Victory standing l., holding long jewelled cross; in field [M] – D and in exergue, COIIOB. RIC cf. 3231. Lacam cf. 22-23.
Very rare and a very intriguing issue. A minor area of weakness and
a scratch in reverse field, otherwise extremely fine

The letter M on the reverse seems to have been removed from the die. The attribution of this coin to Odovacar requires further evidence.
