KYRENAICA. Kyrene (?). Circa 3rd-2nd century BC. Tessera (Lead, 16 mm, 3.91 g, 11 h), RY 18 of an uncertain King. Two grain-ears bound together. Rev. L IH Ram standing right. BMC -. SNG Copenhagen -. Apparently unpublished. Slightly rough, otherwise, very fine.
The problems this tessera poses are quite similar to the previous lot. It is certainly of Kyrenaican origin, but the dating to the 18th regnal year of an unnamed king leaves too many options to be able to pinpoint it to a certain ruler. Both issues are, as such, very unusual and one is left to wonder whether they were some kind of emergency tokens in a time of crisis.
