CELTIC, Central Europe. Helvetii (?). Circa 150-120 BC. Quinarius (Silver, 14 mm, 1.88 g), 'Kreuzquinar', 'Dühren' type. Male head to right, with curly hair cut in a straight line above the ear and eyes. Rev. Cross with V in two quarters and three annulets in the other two; all within circle of dots. Castelin, SNR 49, p. 83, 1-4. Dembski 436. Flesche 355. Kellner, Manching, cf. 484-485 (no circle of dots on the reverse). LT -. SLM -. Struck on an unusually broad flan and hence exceptionally complete. Very fine.

From an important collection of Central European Celtic coins.

The male head on this type is often described as being diademed, but our example clearly shows that this is not the case. The straight line gives it the appearance of a cap, but it might just be a stylized hairline.
