BERN: AR thaler, 1796, KM-149, Dav-1759, attractive original tone, fantastic strike, NGC graded MS64. Bern was soon to be occupied by French troops in 1798 when parts of its territory was taken to form the new Canton of Oberland. Since there was no previous separatist movement, the order was not met with enthusiasm. The 1801 Malmaison Constitution proposed a reunion of the two cantons, but it wasn't until two years later that the cantons were reunited with the abolition of the Helvetian Republic.
