NEWARK, NJ below, much red original luster, R. These medals were distributed to Boston school children in 1901; they were struck by Whitehead & Hoag, Newark, NJ. The reverse of this Issue is a replica of a famous gold medal given to George Washington by resolution of the Continental Congress on March 25, 1776; it was the only gold medal ever granted him by the Federal Government.
